Who Makes Up Coco Gauff’s Team as She Pursues More Grand Slam Titles and Olympic Medals
Coco Gauff’s parents, Corey and Candi, have been by her side throughout her tennis career. However, as the American star aims for more major titles and Olympic medals, her support team extends beyond just her family.
Finding Coco Gauff’s father, Corey, in the stands during one of her matches can be quite a challenge. “My dad is here. I don’t know where. But he’s somewhere,” Gauff joked during the Australian Open, where she reached the semi-finals. “Sometimes my dad says things I can’t repeat here… [Laughs.] We agreed he can express himself elsewhere.”
Despite the humor, Corey Gauff, a former collegiate basketball player, has been Coco’s first and most dedicated coach. Alongside his wife Candi, a former track athlete at Florida State, Corey introduced Coco to tennis at age seven. The family’s move back to Delray Beach from Georgia marked the beginning of Coco’s serious tennis journey, with Gerard Loglo becoming her first serious coach, although Jewel Peterson had guided her earlier in Atlanta.
Fast forward twelve years, and the 2023 US Open champion and seven-time WTA singles titlist continues to have a close-knit support team. Who is coaching her now, and what roles do they play within her team? Let’s take a closer look.
2024: Gilbert Continues and Felipe Ramírez Joins the Team
The tennis landscape is always shifting, and as changes unfold, Coco Gauff’s team is adapting accordingly. Following Riba’s departure from Gauff’s camp in November, coach Brad Gilbert continued his role, guiding Gauff through the first major of the year in Melbourne.
A new addition to the player box was Colombian Felipe Ramírez. He was present in Auckland, New Zealand, during the first week of the season, where Gauff clinched her seventh career singles title and Ramírez became an integral part of the team at the Australian Open.
Ramírez was recruited in the off-season to prepare Gauff for the 2024 season. “I handle day-to-day operations with Coco; I manage her practice schedules, equipment, and ensure everything is in perfect condition for training,” Ramírez explained to Latin American outlet RedMas. “This is a collaborative effort,” he added. “I am not Coco’s sole coach; there are key figures like Gilbert who are crucial to this work.”
Also joining Gauff’s team in Melbourne was physiotherapist Maria Vago, who has been working with Coco for over a year. Vago is responsible for Gauff’s physical preparation, including massages, pre-match warm-ups, post-match cool-downs, and ensuring the tennis star is in optimal condition for her matches.
